The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a renowned aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, to enhance the nation’s aviation sector.

This initiative which was announced on Thursday by the Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Tunde Moshood, aims to facilitate the acquisition of aircraft for Nigerian airlines, improve aviation infrastructure, and elevate operational standards within the industry.

The signing ceremony took place in Seattle, Washington in the United States with key figures from the Nigerian aviation sector in attendance.

Notable stakeholders at the signing included executives from major Nigerian airlines, the top management team of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and representatives from the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON).

The MoU was signed on behalf of Nigeria by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo and Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Africa, Anbessie Yitbarek.

The agreement is seen as a significant advancement in boosting the operational efficiency and safety of Nigerian airlines while positioning them for greater growth in the global aviation market.

According to the statement, the MoU will assist Nigerian airlines in acquiring newer generation of aircraft through Boeing’s extensive network of financiers and lessors, thereby modernising their fleets.

Furthermore, Nigerian airlines will gain access to Boeing’s vast resources, including maintenance documents, engineering drawings, parts purchasing, and flight operations documents.

This access is expected to streamline maintenance practices and reduce operational downtimes.
