A Canada-based Nigerian woman, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, has sparked controversy after dismissing the possibility of her arrest or deportation following a call by the Nigerian House of Representatives demanding her prosecution by the Canadian government.

In a video that went viral on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Sunnberger, who claims to hold Canadian citizenship, asserted her immunity from legal actions in Canada, contrasting the country’s legal system with that of Nigeria.

Speaking in Pidgin English, Sunnberger said, “Somebody just send me message, say them arrest me, say them wan deport me, with passport? I be Canada pikin,” she state. “See am now, I dey house, why I go dey lie?”

LEADERSHIP reports that controversy began earlier in the week when a video emerged showing Sunnberger making inflammatory remarks during a virtual meeting on TikTok.

In the video, she threatened to poison any Yoruba or Benin individuals she encountered, a statement that has since ignited widespread outrage.

In response to these threats, the Nigerian House of Representatives took immediate action, formally requesting that the Canadian government investigate and prosecute Sunnberger.

The House cited her comments as violating both international and Canadian laws against incitement to violence and hate speech.

The lawmakers, in its communication with the Canadian authorities, emphasised the severity of Sunnberger’s remarks, describing them as “dangerous and provocative,” urging for appropriate legal measures to be taken against her.

The Canadian-Nigeria who claims to reside in Ontario, Canada, has remained defiant, reiterating her belief that her Canadian citizenship provides her with protection from legal repercussions.

“Canada no be Nigeria, you no fit arrest person anyhow,” she boasted in the video, further fueling the controversy.
