Yobe State Fadama NG-CARES in collaboration with the Damakasu Multi Links Nigeria Limited has organised two days training for 2, 500 farmers and other vulnerable people on innovative crop and livestock production.

The commissioner for agriculture, Dr Mairo Ahmed Amshi while declaring the training open said the measure was part of efforts towards supporting people under the Fadama Nigerian Recovery and economic stimulus programme in the state.

Amshi said the COVID-19 pandemic crippled a lot of businesses including farming and disrupted food value chain hence the need to support farmers to reduce people’s sufferings.

She said the government has after receiving $750 million distributed $20 million to each of the 36 states including Yobe while FCT was given $15million on performance financing arrangement to augment the budget of state governments.

“In Yobe State, the Fadama NG CARES programme is one of the four delivery platforms implementing the programme with primary focus on agribusiness-related activities under the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, 2, 500 farmers are targeted in this phase of the training that will receive training in innovative agriculture in crops and livestock production, market linkages, storage system and savings respectively.

“It would interest you to know that the training will be followed by inputs and services support for the 17 local government areas of the state. Two communities each with 68 beneficiaries carefully selected by guided criteria of being the most poor, most vulnerable and aged/elderly minded from the state single register and farmers register respectively,” she said.

Amshi commended governor Mai Mala Buni for approving the project as well as facilitating its take-off for people to benefit from the COVID-19 assistance and support.
