Natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the auspices of Abuja Original Inhabitant Youths Empowerment Organisation (AOIYEO) say they have concluded arrangements to nominate credible leaders from among indigenous people of the territory to take charge of affairs of the FCT stakeholders assembly.

The board of trustees of the organisation made this known in a press statement signed by the executive director, Commandant Isaac David.

The assembly has been planned to represent the interests of people of the FCT, where all stakeholders within Abuja and environs would gather regularly to address challenges facing the capital city, discuss the prospects, and ways forward and also a platform where youths would be brought together for development of the territory.

“This Assembly will be similar to what we call Arewa Consultative Forum in the North, Afenifere in the South-west and Ohaneze in the east, it would be a conglomeration of all our people in the FCT irrespective of political affiliations to discuss and chart a better way forward on all the challenges confronting the people of the city and environs.

“This assembly will always be at the forefront to draw the attention of the government to the needs of both the indigenes and residents of Abuja. The assembly is arranged to foster political, economic, cultural development and welfare of the people of the FCT.

“It will also create and support activities that will strengthen political, social, cultural, economic and scientific development of the FCT people in Nigeria and to the extent that is possible, FSA will seek to provide humanitarian relief and support to its members and advance the interest of the FCT people in Nigeria,” he said.

He further said the assembly would also create community development whereby the efforts of government are united with their people to improve the social, cultural, capacity building and economic conditions in communities.

“The Assembly was established in December 2021, and now Dr. Aliyu Bakana has been appointed as acting president to provide a platform where FCT Original Inhabitants will come together to identify the challenges take collective action and generate solutions to common problems.

He added that the FCT Stakeholders Assembly was also designed to create a critical dissent dialogue, questioning, collective action on campaign for policy changes from local to global action and local projects link to movements for change and advocates for the promotion of the fundamental rights to freedom from discrimination and dignity of human.
