Boko Haram Burns Down Village, Many Missing In Yobe

Suspected Boko Haram members have stormed Mafa ward in Tarmuwa local government area of Yobe State and killed the entire people of the village, burndown houses and shops.

One of the residents who doesn’t want his name to be printed told Leadership via telephone conversation that terrorists with weapons on motorcycles attacked Mafa, killing many innocent people and burning schools, shops and houses.

Another resident who escaped from the attack, Mallam Buba Adamu, said Boko Haram killed many people in the village, including underage, youths and elderly people. He added that they don’t know precisely the number of people killed by insurgents.

According to him, the terrorists used rifles and RPGs’s during the attack on Mafa, burning the entire village. Nothing remains; the village is ashe. “Nobody in the village now, almost 80% of the villagers were killed including small people, what kind of this injustice, inhuman behaviour,” he asked.

Also, speaking to LEADERSHIP on the phone, the village head, Lawan Mai Bano, said on Sunday evening, fighters stormed Mafa ward as suspected Boko Haram had warned an attack on the village since last week.

He added that the terrorists killed many people, burnt over 1,000 houses, shops and looted food, burning down everything in the village.

He said the fighters opened fire indiscriminately and killed many as some residents fled into the bush. “Nobody remains in the village as I am talking to you now. Some people missing, killed and others fled into the bush for safety,” he added.

He called on the federal and state governments to deploy more troops to the village to protect the lives and property of its citizens and avoid further incidents.

Bano also said that the attackers abducted many youths before setting the village on fire.

The spokesperson of the Yobe State Police command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim confirmed the attack. He said, ” Suspected Boko Haram members invaded Mafa village on Sunday evening, was reported to Tarmuwa DPO on the attack by one of the residents Babagana Goni.
According to him, the attackers stormed the village around 4pm on Sunday evening but the number of people killed by the attackers is yet to be ascertained for now.”

He added, ” I want to inform you that, for now, our men and military personnel are deployed to the village to restore peace after the attack. We are working for the full details,” said Dungus.
