Local government chairmen in Nigeria have asked other governors in the country to emulate Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State for his outstanding performances that have led to the autonomy of local government administration in the state.

The call was made at the National executive council meeting of the association holding in Lokoja.
Speaking at the event, the national president of ALGON, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, said Bello Should be emulated for being the first to make local governments autonomous, adding that council chairmen were proud of his sterling leadership qualities.
He praised Kogi State for being the first to pass the local government autonomy bill currently before all state assemblies in the country, and described Kogi as a model for others to learn from.
Hon. Alabi commended Gov. Bello for making the state about the safest in the country, and praised him for his bottom- top approach in fighting insecurity in the state.
The national president called for the review of the revenue allocation formula, describing the present 22% as grossly inadequate, and called for an increase in the state government allocation.
Speaking on the occasion, Gov. Yahaya Bello noted that the challenge of insecurity the country was passing through required collective
responsibility, saying the choice of Kogi State was not far-fetched and apt, as it is about the safest state in Nigeria. He assured that working in synergy with the council chairmen in the state, he had been able to fight insecurity to a standstill.
The governor said his administration had made women and youths priorities, thus giving them a sense of belonging, and assured that he would continue to make the welfare of the people a priority.
