The state executive council has approved a draft of a new procurement bill amendment to try to block loopholes in the Osun State procurement process.

The state commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi in Osogbo, who disclosed this to journalists yesterday, said that the council approved the proposed amendments. At the same time, Governor Ademola Adeleke has signed a letter forwarding the bill to the state House of Assembly for legislative action.

According to him, other council resolutions included a directive on preparing for the state government’s second-year anniversary, a commendation on sectoral performance for some ministries, and a directive on deepening public engagement.

The council particularly directed the Ministry of Education to conduct interviews for teaching applicants within the cutoff range adopted at the conclusion of the ongoing teacher recruitment exercise.

“The Council presided over by Governor Ademola Adeleke gave the directive after receiving updated reports from the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Adedipo Eluwole, who briefed the council on the activities leading to this final stage of the exercise.

“The Council, while emphasising the need for a meritorious outcome, further directed the ministry to issue a detailed official notice on the interview exercise, listing the dates and venue,” he said.

Alimi noted that the council acknowledged the issuance of letters to teachers on the elongated service programme for which about two thousand beneficiaries have been issued letters of engagement, describing this as part of concerted efforts to bridge the staff shortage within the state school system.
