A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Chief Benedict Akika was on Tuesday kidnapped when unknown gunmen who stormed his residence at Olorunda Abba in Lagelu local government area of the state.

LEADERSHIP gathered that one other resident was shot dead during the attack and this has thrown the people of the community in fears, with many residents worried about the possibility of further attacks.

Akika is a prominent chieftain of the PDP and founder of Omituntun Benedict Foundation (OBF), a group that supported the election and reelection of Governor Seyi Makinde.

His foundation was known for its contributions toward poverty alleviation and youth empowerment in the state, making him a key figure within the PDP and a major supporter of grassroots development.

The kidnap, according to sources, appeared to be a well-coordinated attack as unconfirmed reports indicated that one individual was killed by the assailants in the course of the abduction.

While the identity of the deceased had not been officially confirmed, residents of the community have expressed shock and fear over the increasing rate of violence and insecurity in the area.

A community leader who spoke on behalf of the community on condition of anonymity, called on security agencies to intensify their patrols and ensure that the criminals behind the kidnapping were swiftly brought to justice.

“This act of terror has left our community in fear. We appeal to the government and the police to bring Chief Akika back safely and put an end to this insecurity,” he said.
