Heavy Downpour Causes Flooding In Bauchi

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in the Bauchi metropolis, with several houses, roads and public facilities submerged under the waters.

LEADERSHIP Friday reports that the flooding occurred due to about two hours of rainfall that flooded major roads, forcing many people to look for alternative routes.

Speaking, Muh’d Dogo, a 55-year-old resident of Unguwan Gass, said, “This problem has been long. It has not started now; whenever there’s heavy rain, the road is blocked, and those in authority are aware.”
He called on the government to act and avert future occurrences of a similar incident.

Also, for the third time this rainy season, a flood submerged the rented apartment of this reporter, forcing his family to squat in a temporary shelter.

A resident of Bakin Kura, Umar Aliyu, said several houses in the area were affected by the flood, which turned inhabitable.

“We have never seen rain like this before. It is, in one way or the other, telling us that the reality of climate change is real and cannot be denied.

“Some residents of this area could not sleep in their houses for the next couple of days because of the devastating effect of the flooding,” he said, pointing to a street overtaken by the flooding water.
