Former minister of defence, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, yesterday threw his weight behind the Ondo State governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, ahead of the November governorship election in the state.

Kayode, who was also a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, urged the people of the state to vote for Aiyedatiwa judging by people-oriented programmes he has embarked on since he assumed office as the governor of the state a few months ago.

While noting that the state could be assured that the governor will attend to their needs if given the opportunity, Kayode described the recruitment of teachers into public schools across the 18 local government areas of the state as the right step to enhance the standard and quality of education in the state.

Kayode who spoke in Akure, the state capital, stated that the appointment of senior special assistants on community engagement to interface with people at the grassroots in the state is a viable innovation that would afford a first-hand knowledge of the grassroots, a vital issue in progressive governance.

He said: “I want to commend Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on his achievements so far since he took over as the substantive governor of our state.

“Looking at his recent intervention in the education sector.  He recruited more teachers for our public schools. We expect more of this, especially for STEM.  Before now, we all know many schools do not have enough teachers.

“Schools are to be renovated to provide an enabling environment for both teachers and students as well. Students in tertiary institutions received scholarships and bursaries. A listening governor must understand the yearnings of his people. Appointing aides to interface with the people in the rural areas to know their demands showed how much he understands governance.

“In the critical areas of portable water and primary health delivery, Governor Lucky realized that the people at the grassroots need portable water to avoid outbreaks of waterborne diseases so he has started delivering water boreholes in rural communities across the state.

“Approval has been given for the provision of solar power.  All these have a multi-sectorial impact on public health, agriculture, insecurity, and general socio-economic status. The state government is encouraging the people of the state to engage in all-year-round farming to assure food security in the state.
