Motorists in Enugu have expressed worry over the new trekking habit embraced by Enugu residents over the exorbitant hike in transportation fares.

An investigation carried out by our correspondent revealed that commuters increased transportation fares by almost three times immediately after NNPCL announced the last increment in the pump price of fuel.

The development forced Enugu residents to resort to trekking to carry out their daily activities.
It was also observed that the new trekking habit has led to low patronage for commuters who have continued to plead with their customers to turn a new leaf.

A commercial bus driver, Mr Ogbonna Okeke, said he is now finding it difficult to recover the money he used to buy fuel after the day’s job.

” My brother, we are not finding it easy at all. We find it difficult to get the money we used to buy fuel after the day’s job; people now trek to work and their business places.

” We are not the cause of the increment in transportation fares. Even with the hike, we still find it difficult to make profits; NNPCL should reduce the fuel price,” he lamented.

Another commercial driver, Obinna Ogbonnaya, said they may be forced to park their vehicles if people continue to shun their services.

” My route is Timber, Maryland and Ugwu aji, but I discovered that after the last increase in fuel price, people are angry with us because we added something to enable us to make small gains. We are finding it difficult.

” We want people to continue to patronise us, and we beg NNPC to reduce the fuel price so that we can reduce our fare so that people will stop trekking. It is not funny,” he appealed
