The arrest was made yesterday at approximately 19:30 hours in Batsari town.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Nasir Muazu, the corps made the arrest based on intelligence gathering. They stopped the vehicle with plate number BTR 45 XA, carrying 17 passengers, including the driver.

“During the routine check, the corps members discovered 610 rounds of ammunition hidden under a seat, including AK-47 and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) rounds, as well as two magazines.
The suspect, wearing white voile clothes, exhibited suspicious behaviour throughout the journey and attempted to evade capture when the vehicle was stopped for inspection. He left behind the concealed ammunition and is currently at large”, the statement added.

It further stressed that the Katsina state government has commended the corps for its vigilance and swift action in intercepting the vehicle and recovering the ammunition. The government reiterates its commitment to maintaining peace and security within the state. It will continue to support and enhance the capabilities of the security apparatus to combat all forms of criminality.
