“During the routine check, the corps members discovered 610 rounds of ammunition hidden under a seat, including AK-47 and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) rounds, as well as two magazines.
The suspect, wearing white voile clothes, exhibited suspicious behaviour throughout the journey and attempted to evade capture when the vehicle was stopped for inspection. He left behind the concealed ammunition and is currently at large”, the statement added.

It further stressed that the Katsina state government has commended the corps for its vigilance and swift action in intercepting the vehicle and recovering the ammunition. The government reiterates its commitment to maintaining peace and security within the state. It will continue to support and enhance the capabilities of the security apparatus to combat all forms of criminality.

The incident highlights the importance of community policing and the role of the Community Watch Corps in maintaining security in the state. It urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
