Former Senate President, Sen. Ahmad Lawan and the Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam have both commiserated with Governor Babagana Zulum and the people of Borno State over the flooding that ravaged Maiduguri and other parts of the state.

Lawal, in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, expressed sadness over the loss of lives and property due to the flood which also displaced many residents and destroyed homes, farmlands and other means of livelihood.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the severe flooding in Borno State, which has caused untold hardship and suffering to our compatriots. My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones and property in this disaster.

“I urge the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to swiftly provide relief materials and assistance to the affected communities,“ Lawan said.

He added, “I want to commend Governor Babagana Zulum for his proactive efforts in evacuating residents from the flooded areas and providing temporary shelters for them. His leadership has been instrumental in minimising the impact of the disaster.“

The president of the ninth Senate also commended the federal government for providing additional support to the state to enable it to cope with the aftermaths of the floods.

In his massage, the Minister of Police Affairs stressed that the tragic event has brought untold suffering, displacing families, damaging homes, and affecting livelihoods across the region.

Senator Gaidam, in a statement by his Special Assistant, Dr Liman Goje, on behalf of the ministry and himself, extended heartfelt sympathies to the Borno State government and the people of Maiduguri over the incident.

“The pain and hardship that Maiduguri is currently experiencing touch us all, and we stand in solidarity with you during this challenging time,” Gaidam said.

Gaidam pledged the ministry’s commitment to collaborating with all relevant agencies to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of the community.

“We trust that with the support of the federal government, stakeholders, and all Nigerians, Maiduguri will overcome this adversity and emerge stronger,” the minister said.
