As the international community gets set to observe the International Day of Peace, a global peace advocacy group known as the International Association Of World Peace Advocates IAWPA has announced that it will be giving the highly prestigious International Eminent Peace Ambassador Award to His Excellency Engineer Oluseyi Makinde the Executive Governor of Oyo State.

In a press statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Abuja, Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke the International Spokesman of the association said the association after receiving the nomination of Governor Makinde said the International Management Team of the association decided to appoint the Oyo State Governor as an Eminent Peace Ambassador which makes him the only governor to receive this nomination this year.

 

He commended some of the governors peace efforts in his home state which includes the setting up of a zonal peace and security committees in the state which has helped brought relative peace to the South West state.

The Association said aside improving peaceful coexistence with the people of the state, the governor has also made achievements in the area of ensuring gender balance in all decision-making positions.

While stressing the importance of such to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals SDG of the United Nations, Amb Nkweke said the Oyo State Government has encouraged inclusive participation in policy and decision making and has also done much also in the area of promoting Child rights in the state.

He said considering the commitment to the SDG programmes, the governor has shown cause why he deserves given the award of Eminent Peace Ambassador by the association the only governor to get such this year.

He said the award will take place in Government House, Ibadan , Oyo State on Thursday the 26th of September 2024 four days after the United Nations would have observed the International Day of Peace.

Similarly, the Oyo State Director of the association Amb. Dr. Muhammed- Lawal Musa Alongbija said that the state is set to welcome the World Peace President, His Excellency, Amb. Per Stafen and his team to Oyo State adding that the state in recent past has recorded good number of Peace advocates and Eminent Peace Ambassadors justifying the state’s peaceful disposition and readiness in promoting unity and harmony in Nigeria.
