The Presidency has refuted Bishop Matthew Kukah’s claims regarding President Bola Tinubu’s participation in peace accords during the 2023 election process.

In a post on his X handle, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, asserted that, contrary to Bishop Kukah’s allegations, President Tinubu did indeed sign two crucial peace accords.

Onanuga said the first peace accord was signed on September 29, 2022.

This agreement committed all candidates to ensure a free and credible election in Nigeria. While President Tinubu was not present for this signing, he was represented by his running mate and current Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

The second and perhaps more contentious peace accord was signed on February 23, 2023, just days before the general election.

This agreement specifically required candidates to accept the election outcome. Onanuga emphasised that President Tinubu personally signed this accord.

He said, “Contrary to Bishop Kukah’s claims, President Tinubu signed the two peace accords preceding his election in 2023.

The first accord, committing the candidates to a free and credible election in the country, was signed on September 29, 2022. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu.
