CBO Celebrates 9 Years In Kano

A community-based Organization, the Society for Child Support and Economic Empowerment (SOCSEE), has marked nine years of impact in community intervention and supporting the vulnerable in parts of Kano state.
Speaking at an event to mark the anniversary, the organisation’s executive director, Sunusi Hashim, said the organisation has made various health, education, and empowerment interventions for sustainable development.

According to him, SOCSEE started as a society for child support, which was birthed by concern about the shortage of malaria drugs reaching vulnerable groups, especially children at the grassroots.

He said it started by making advocacy and was given mosquito nets for distribution. Later, it expanded to a tuberculosis program, community strengthening system assessment, HIV support, and COVID-19 program.

Hashim also explained that SOCSEE has implemented more than 15 projects, including enrolling up to 5,000 people in its HIV/AIDS integration programme, coordinating 30 CBOs for the Tuberculosis program in 30 LGAs in the state aimed at eradicating Tuberculosis, empowering and enrolling girls back to school through the AGILE program, and conducting malaria interventions.

While appreciating God, partners, and staff for all their contributions, he highlighted that SOCSEE, which started with three staff members, has grown to have 26 staff members and 2000 volunteers across the state. He further prayed to move forward to becoming an NGO.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the organisation’s Board of Trustees, Dr Musa Sufi, congratulated them on their anniversary and tasked staff members with being innovative and hardworking, noting that hard work is vital to excelling in all endeavours.

He urged them to be passionate about their work and build skills so that they could take advantage of opportunities in the future.

Also speaking, the state program officer of the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Malam Shariff Abubakar, commended SOCSEE for consistently meeting the deadline in all projects given, recording so many success stories and impacts. He, however, prayed for higher achievement as they progressed.
