Kano State has developed the second State Health Sector Strategic Plan for 2023, with the completion of Cancer Centre, four Emirates Hospitals and establishment of ICT centre in the Ministry of Health as its key priorities.

The state commissioner for health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa who disclosed this in Kaduna at the weekend during the state’s Annual Operational Planning (AOP) for Health Sector, said that, with the evidence-based plan, Kano may allocate more to healthcare in the 2023 budget to address outbreak of new diseases like monkey pox.

Addressing newsmen at a press conference during the event, the commissioner said, the development of one unified evidence-based AOP, which identifies key high impact interventions on health indices in the state, has enormous benefits, including the continuous increases of budgetary allocation and releases to the health sector.

According to Tsanyawa, “Every year, the State Ministry of Health convenes meeting with all MDAs, other line ministries and all partners supporting the state to develop one harmonised Operations Plan for the year using the State Strategic Plan as guiding document.

“The objective behind this is to ensure One Leadership, One Plan and One M&E framework in the entire Health sector. This is very important to foster greater harmonization and integration of resources and efforts, thereby reducing duplication of efforts and resource wastages from both government MDAs and Partners.

“Kano State is the first state in the country to start this process since 1999 before the FMOH learnt and replicate this in all states of the Federation. From 1999 to date Kano State Government has sustained this process to ensure development of evidence-based Plan for the sector that informs government annual budget,” he said.
