National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has released N260 million to the Niger State Government for the establishment of 40 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the state.

The executive director and chief executive officer of the agency, Dr. MuyiAina disclosed this when he visited Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the Government House, Minna.

Dr. Aina explained that the additional 40 PHCs were to support and complement the effort of the state government in health care delivery.

He further revealed that the project would be directly funded from the NPHCDA resources mobilised from development partners.

Dr Aina said more PHCs in Niger State would benefit from the Basic Health Care Provision Funds, as President Tinubu-led federal government intends to double the number of PHCs receiving the funds.

He said the amount the facilities receive, will be increased from N300,000 to between N600, 000 and N800,000 quarterly, based on the number of patients they attend to by their service.

He charged the governor on accountability and urged him to monitor how the funds are being expended and provide feedback to the agency.

While appealing for more efforts to close up some human resources gaps, increase the density of the level two facilities, he noted that the state’s facilities are decent based on the assessment carried out by NPHCDA across the country.

Governor Bago in his response said his administration is making deliberate effort to invest in health and education, promising that about 70 to 80 per cent of the capital expenditure for the next fiscal year will be on the two sectors.
