As process for the selection of next Aseyin of Iseyin in Oyo State begins, the Oluwo Aseyin of Iseyin, Chief Ifasoji Adeyemi, has declared that the new Aseyin of Iseyin will be picked by Ifa oracle and not through financial or political influence.

After a meeting held at his residence in Iseyin at the weekend where there were deliberations on the 2022 annual Oro Festival that started yesterday in the community, Oluwo, who doubled as the head of Traditional Worshippers Association (TRWASO), Iseyin chapter, said the usual practice whereby contestants to the throne would be killing cows and spending money for kingmakers had become a thing of the past, as each of the households of the next royal family would present a consensus candidate.

The chief priest added that out of the three contending households of the Akando ruling house, one of them, which he decided not to mention, had already presented a candidate.

“Time has changed and we are back to how our forebears used to do it that made it seamless then, that was the time kingmakers were focused on the progress of the town and not pecuniary gains from selection of a would-be Aseyin of Iseyin.”

“This time around, we have met with the representatives of the Akando royal family and the three households that are contesting for the throne has accepted to present one candidate each for the oracle to pick the best from them.’’

“We want the process to be seamless so as to have another king on the throne within a short period because of the progress of our community, a community without a king will have to contend with so many growth challenges and we do not want our Iseyin to suffer because of the vacuum on the throne.
