College Registrar Who Assaulted Female Lecturer Discharged After Paying N1m Damages

The Chief Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has discharged the Acting Registrar of College for Legal Studies in Yola, Musa Chiroma, after paying N1million as damages for assaulting a female lecturer, Barr. Fadimatu Musa.

The Registrar also paid N80,000 as cost of prosecution, written apology and undertaking not to victimise the plaintiff nor assault her again.

The conditions were the grounds, which the court, presided by Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi, considered in its judgement before discharging the defendant and striking out the matter.

Chiroma was arraigned before the court on the May 13, 2024, for the offences bordering on assault, criminal force to deter public servant from discharging her lawful duty and voluntary causing of body harm in violation of Sections 244 and 219 of the Penal Law 2018.

According to report, Chiroma had on April 15, 2024, assaulted the Assistant Chief Lecturer in the College, who is also the chairman of Task Force for the enforcement of school fees payment in the institution.

The accused beat up Barr Fadimatu, a housewife, for preventing a student from writing an examination over the student’s failure to pay his mandatory fees.

During the resumed court’s sitting, Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen appeared for the prosecution, while S. N. Agaecheta appeared for the defendant.

Also, the Head of Public Sector Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association’s Women Forum, who is also the immediate-past State Lead of the forum, Mrs. Fatima Bello Raji Esq, was in court to ensure justice in the matter.

Other members of the forum were also in attendance to monitor proceedings and support their member in ensuring justice in the case.
