Bauchi South senatorial district’s Senator Shehu Umar has donated N50 million to victims of the flooding disaster in Borno State.
Umar made the donation when he visited Maiduguri to commiserate with the Borno State governor, Prof Babagana Zulum and the people of the state over the recent flood.
In a statement yesterday by his media aide, Sulaiman Lalaye, the senator commended Governor Zulum and the Borno State government for their prompt response to the disaster by deploying emergency services to provide relief materials, evacuate affected residents and restore basic services.
Senator Umar, who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, commended the federal government for its swift response and support.
He urged development partners as well as humanitarian organisations to assist Borno State to mitigate the impact of the flood.
He said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected victims. We sympathise with all people of Borno State and pray for the souls of the deceased, and speedy recovery for all those affected by the disaster.”
