Delta community in Ndokwa West local government area has instructed herdsmen grazing openly in Igbe Ogume communities to vacate their land with immediate effect to end the incessant destruction of farm crops.

The Onotu-Uku of Ogbe-Ogume, Chief Michael Nwose gave the directive through the chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Chief David Agadi in a meeting attended by the indigenes of two communities, herdsmen and the member representing Delta North in the State Livestock Management Committee.

Speaking at the Onotu-Uku’s palace, Agadi explained that if the excesses of the herdsmen were not checked, the people would face hunger and starvation in the near future, adding that the piece of land being used for grazing by herders were reserved for the next farming season in October.

The spokesman of the Ogbe-Ogume Community, Chief Israel Ajuwa said the indigenes could no longer condone the unlawful activities of the herdsmen, especially given the current economic hardship in the country.

In his remarks, the member representing Delta North in the State Livestock Management Committee, Mr Matthew Ujene thanked the communities for their peaceful deposition in handling the matter.
Responding, a representative of the Fulani herdsmen in the meeting, Jafaru Muhammed assured the communities that he would relay their message to the owner of the cows towards finding a lasting solution to the crises.
