Spokesperson of Kano State Command, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), CRC Abdullahi Labaran, in a statement made available to newsmen noted that, the officers were identified as police officers who were on their way from the weekend’s governorship election in Edo state.

According to Labaran, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Karfi Village by the Trailer Park along Zaria-Kano road.

“The crash, reported by the Kura Local Government Police Division, involved two vehicles – a trailer and a Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number 14B101KN belonging to Kano line.

“The accident, which took place at approximately 0115 hours, involved a total of fifteen individuals. Sadly, five lives were lost, and ten people sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“The victims were identified as members of the Nigeria Police Force returning from a special assignment in Edo State, where they had been deployed for election monitoring,” Labaran said.

He added that preliminary investigations by the FRSC revealed that the crash was caused by excessive speeding, which led the driver of the Hummer bus to lose control and collide with a parked trailer.

The Sector Commander, ACM Ahmed Tijjani Mohammed, extends his heartfelt condolences to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the families of the victims.

He also wished the injured persons a speedy recovery.

While stressing on the need for motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations, CRC Labaran warned against excessive speeding, overloading and other traffic infractions.
