The Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation (ABSF) has announced plan to support 70,000 widows across the country.

Coordinator of the project in North-Central, Musa Aliyu described widows as very important sector in the society that needs real-time support, especially in the phase of the present economic challenges.

Aliyu said the foundation believes that helping widows in its little way will make a remarkable difference in their lives.

“Ours is how to assist the less-privilege from all strata of the society through skills and resources that will make them independent than to rely on anybody.

‘Our mission is to touch the lives of the vulnerable population in a positive way with focus on health, education, youth, empowerment, sports and leadership mentoring.”

He added that the objective of ABSF includes providing widows with skills and economic independence. “We will also support them to attain their right to protection, inclusion and participation in the society that will enable them to cater for their needs and sustain their livelihoods.”

The ABSF coordinator disclosed that research has shown that Nigeria is home to an estimated 15 million, out of the 258 million global widows’ population.
