Fulani communities of Aljannare district in Suru local government area of Kebbi State have sent a passionate appeal of Save Our Souls (SOS) to Governor Nasir Idris and the Emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, to intervene over the encroachment of Grazing Reserves by farmers at Gungun Diko and Gungun Oro to avoid recurrence of Fulani/farmers clashes in the area.

Speaking with journalists, some of the community leaders, including Ladan Golima, Jabbi Dangarso, and Malam Abubakar Kinasa, the Chief Imam of Gungun Dikko Village, disclosed that for over eighty years, the grazing reserves that belong to the Fulani communities and used to accommodate over one million animals have been encroached by farmers.

According to them, the communities have supporting documents from the relevant authorities for allocating the land to serve as grazing reserves.

They added that Fulani and Hausa communities in the Aljannare district are living peacefully, and there is a need to maintain that as they demand their rights.

The leaders emphasised that only the government’s intervention would solve the looming clash between Fulani and farmers, who are ready to return to their grazing reserves after the rainy season.

The chairman of Miyatti Allah Fulani Association, Suru local government area, Usman Aliyu Masama, stated that the leadership is making all efforts to solve the problem that might arise between Fulani and farmers in the area, testifying that the grazing reserves belong to the Fulani for decades.

He noted that in the last two years, there was a clash between Fulani and farmers in the area over the grazing reserves that resulted in the loss of many lives and animals, which the recurrence should be avoided by government intervention.
