Lagos State government has sealed off churches, hotels and bars across the state for violating the state’s environmental laws.
The commissioner for environment and water resources, Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed this on his verified X handle, added that it was part of efforts to ensure environmental law compliance and promote public health.
He said, “In a decisive step towards tackling noise pollution and other environmental violations, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), today sealed off multiple establishments across various parts of Lagos State.”
Wahab added that the enforcement operation which targeted locations in Ikeja, Mushin, Gbagada and Maryland, was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with environmental laws and protect public health.
He said, “Among the closed establishments are Vital Products Limited, A & P Nigeria Limited, Polite Anchorage and Suites, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Terrag Inn Apartment, Evening Class Guest House, Celestial Church of God, a printing press, Charley’s Bar and 7th Heaven Hotel & Suites. These establishments were found guilty of violating environmental regulations despite several warnings from LASEPA.”
The general manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr Babatunde Ajayi, stressed the agency’s zero-tolerance to non-compliance with environmental laws, saying, “We will not tolerate non-compliance with our regulations.”
He added that all businesses must recognise their environmental responsibilities through the zero-tolerance policy by collaborating with the state government to ensure a cleaner, more sustainable Lagos.
According to him, in line with its zero tolerance, the state government has intensified its effort to tackle noise pollution and environmental violations, urging the residents to comply with the laws.
