As part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability and inclusivity in governance in Gombe State, the Gombe State Fiscal Responsibility Commission has presented State Action Plan (SAP 1) on Open Government Partnership (OGP) to Governor Inuwa Yahya for approval and implementation.

The chairman of the commission, Umar Baba Goro, together with the Co-chairman (Non-state Actors) of Gombe State Open Government Partnership, Dr Bachama Yusuf, who is also a board member with other board members of the commission, yesterday submitted the action plan to the governor through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

During the presentation, Goro, said the commission has made significant strides in promoting fiscal transparency and accountability since its establishment.

According to him, the commission presented papers at a USAID State2State workshop, conducted fiscal responsibility compliance assessments and rankings for Ministries, Departments and Agencies, organised a public finance management roundtable, and monitored and evaluated capital projects in the state.

However, he noted that the commission faces challenges including a lack of adequate permanent staff, human resources and capacity gaps, poor ICT infrastructure, limited vehicles for monitoring and supervision, and funding constraints.

To address these challenges, the commission requested the provision of vehicles and critical working tools, a review of monthly running costs, and permanent staff recruitment.
