The exhibition which opened at National Museum Onikan, Lagos, features 50 painted artworks representing Adeyemi’s artistic exploration of the world around, which have transitioned over the years to highly stylistic, thematic and semi-abstract images. His works draw from a variety of sources including his Yoruba heritage. It also spots wearable art pieces like ‘Orimipe’, ‘Metaphor’ that explores the marriage of the past, the present and the future.

Prior to becoming an academician at the Yaba College of Technology, the artist was once among the prospective students who sought admission into the school’s Department of Fine Art in 1979. Post admission, he was trained under the watchful stewardship of one of Nigeria’s modern art founders, Professor Yusuf Grillo. Today, he has risen through the ranks to become an arts lecturer and dean of arts at Yaba Tech.

“I studied under dons like Olusegun Bello Osagie, Akeredolu Olusola, Evue, Dayo Solaja among others. I also learnt the art practically under the likes of Professor Bruce Onabrakpeya and others,” said Adeyemi.
Although now retired from the academia, he is determined to continue his art practice, which has the capacity for adding value to the national economy.

CEO, Irachy Consult, Dr Bukola B. Jaiyesimi, the organizer of the exhibition noted that “through bold experimentation and distinct aesthetic, the artist invites viewers into a world that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.”
