The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has acknowledged the ongoing challenges passengers face in securing online tickets for the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS), which has led to widespread ticket racketeering.

In a statement issued by the NRC’s deputy director of public relations, Yakub Mahmood, the corporation assured the public that steps are being taken to tackle the issue.

“We are aware of the difficulties our passengers are facing with the ticketing process, and we are committed to finding a lasting solution,” the statement reads.

To address the problem, the NRC has set up a special investigation team led by the deputy director of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to probe the underlying causes of the ticketing irregularities.

The investigation aims to curb illegal ticket resale and streamline the process for legitimate passengers.
As part of immediate corrective measures, the NRC Managing Director appointed Mr Mohammed Modibo Ibrahim as the new Manager of the AKTS.

Mohamed Modibo Ibrahim, a railway district manager in East Enugu, has now moved to Abuja as station manager and is expected to spearhead efforts to restore smooth operations.

According to the statement, “Mr. Ibrahim’s appointment is part of a broader effort to bring fresh leadership to the service and improve overall efficiency.”

Additionally, the NRC plans to increase the frequency of train services on the Abuja-Kaduna route.

The director of operations has been instructed to implement this change within two weeks to ease passenger flow and reduce demand pressure.

The NRC urged passengers to be patient as these reforms are implemented.

“We ask for the public’s understanding as we work to improve the ticketing system and provide a more seamless travel experience,” the statement added.
