October 1: Kano Police Warn Protesters Against Breakdown Of Law, Order

The Police have warned the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shi’ite against procession on October 1, stating that such movement will not be allowed from a proscribed group.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, AIG Bennett Igweh said the police has an intelligence that the group was planning to use the planned protest to cause problems in the FCT.

AIG Igweh further said the police has not received any letter from any group planning to protest and warned against any act that will cause breakdown of law and order in the nation’s capital.

Meanwhile, the FCT Police Command, in anticipation of the upcoming October 1 Independence Day celebration, said it has strategically deployed adequate personnel and equipment throughout the nation’s capital.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh in a statement said, “This proactive deployments aim to ensure that residents of the FCT enjoy a hitch-free Independence Day celebration. The deployment will include Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, anti-riot equipment, visibility policing, among others.”

Adeh added that traffic will be diverted in areas expected to experience large crowds, including Central Area and Eagle Square.
