In commemoration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Distinguished Senator Allwell Heacho Onyesoh (Rivers East), has congratulated Nigerians for continued resilience in the face of challenges, calling for patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The Senator through his media aide, Peter Oriri, Senator Onyesoh stressed the significance of unity, love, and peaceful coexistence for the progress and stability of the nation.

Reflecting on country’s journey post-independence, Senator Onyesoh acknowledged the numerous challenges the country faces but expressed optimism for a brighter future. He assured his constituents in Rivers East and Nigerians at large that, with concerted efforts and patience, the Nation would continue to advance towards sustainable development and prosperity.

“As we celebrate our 64th Independence Day Anniversary, we must remember the sacrifices made by our founding fathers: Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa amongst others. Let us recommit ourselves to the ideals they stood for: national unity, peace, justice, and tolerance,” Senator Onyesoh stated.

The Senator, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its ongoing efforts to revive the Nation’s economy. He highlighted several initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth and stability and urged Nigerians to exercise patience as the policies take effect.

Senator Onyesoh, a staunch advocate of the Federal Character Principles, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring fair representation and equitable distribution of opportunities across the country. He assured his constituents that the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs would continue to work tirelessly to promote fairness and inclusivity in the distribution of national resources.

In light of recent calls for protests scheduled to hold on October 1st, Senator Onyesoh appealed to Nigerians to shun actions that could disrupt the peace and stability of the country. He encouraged everyone to support the government’s efforts and focus on dialogue as a means of addressing grievances.

“Let us celebrate this day with pride and hope for a better Nigeria. I urge all Nigerians to exercise patience and give the current administration time to implement its reforms. Together, we can build a nation that works for everyone,” he stated.

Senator Onyesoh concluded by wishing Nigerians a happy Independence Day and called for renewed commitment to the Nation’s unity and progress.
