Director of Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Adams Nayola has said 10 people lost their lives in incidents of flooding in the state.
LEADERSHIP learned that the most affected local governments are Jama’are, Giade, Misau, Dambam, Zaki, Darazo, Kirfi, Itas-Gadau, Shira, Gamawa and Toro. The director disclosed this in an interview with reporters in his office.
“At least 10 people lost their lives while several hectares of farmlands and houses were washed away in some parts of the state,” he said.
He said the flooding forced many residents to relocate to some neighbouring communities, noting that the agency was gathering data on farmlands and houses destroyed across the state.
He added that the flood split apart some communities in Jama’are and Misau local government areas, stating that the latest incident was also recorded in Zaki council.
Nayola explained that the SEMA was doing everything possible to provide relief materials to the victims of the flood.
The director further disclosed that SEMA had intensified public enlightenment urging people in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer places to avoid future devastation.
