After months of delay, students already in junior secondary school 1 in Imo state will write the first school leaving certificate examination meant for them while they were in primary schools on Wednesday, October 16th.

The state ministry of education issued a directive, which has been circulated to parents of the graduated pupils, to bring their children for the examination on Wednesday.

For some strange reason, Imo students write the examination way behind schedule, just like junior WAEC was written a year after, without any reason by the education ministry.

Findings by Leadership on Tuesday showed parents of students in boarding schools rushing to take their children home to be able to participate in the examination.

At the unity schools in the state, viz: Federal Government Girls College Owerri, Federal Science and Technical College Umuaka, and Federal Government College Okigwe, JSS 1 students were seen in their numbers leaving for the examination.

It was the same at Government College Owerri, Owerri Girls Secondary School, Holy Ghost College Owerri and all the different schools.

The first school leaving certificate examination is a significant requirement for primary school pupils to show they attended, and many organisations use it to calculate people’s actual age.
