The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has conferred its prestigious fellowship on 36 distinguished engineers during its 17th Fellowship Conferment Ceremony.
In his address, NIEEE President, Engr Felix Olu, urged the newly inducted fellows to take an active role in solving the nation’s ongoing power challenges.
“It would be unacceptable for you to witness our inability to resolve such critical problems while possessing the expertise to make a difference,” Olu said, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with their new positions.
Olu also highlighted the importance of the fellowship, which recognizes engineers for their exceptional contributions in fields such as Power and Clean Energy, ICT, and Emerging Technologies.
He reminded the fellows that their elevation comes with the duty to mentor younger engineers, uphold professionalism, and support the institute’s national goals.
“Your conferment is significant because you are now part of the College of Fellows, the elders of the institute. This comes with new responsibilities,” he added.
The event coincided with the 20th International Symposium on Electrical Conductivity and the 30th Annual General Meeting of the NIEEE.
Speaking at the ceremony, Board of Fellows Chairman, Engr Isaac Adekanye, said, “Engineers are central to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas like energy management and climate change.”
He further stressed the importance of technological innovations such as AI, robotics, and big data in addressing national challenges.
“Our focus on power, green energy, and emerging technologies ensures that NIEEE remains at the forefront of national growth,” Adekanye said.
As the NIEEE continues to champion engineering excellence, the new fellows are expected to lead the charge in advancing Nigeria’s power sector and driving national development through their expertise and innovation.
