African film luminaries are gearing up to dazzle at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA). Notable stars such as Ghana’s Jackie Appiah, Nigeria’s Femi Adebayo, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Osita Iheme, Kenya’s Kenneth Ambani, and Burkina Faso’s Charles Koutou will headline the 20th edition of AMAA, taking place in Lagos, Nigeria, on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Mr. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe and Mr. Tony Anih shared these details following a recent Africa Film Academy board meeting. They announced that over 60 African film stars are expected to attend, along with a plethora of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this prestigious continental awards ceremony.
This year’s AMAA is particularly significant, as the board has committed to making it a memorable event for all African filmmakers, creatives, and nominees. The awards will be hosted in collaboration with the Lagos State Government at the distinguished Balmoral Convention Centre in Ikeja, GRA, Lagos.
Anyiam-Osigwe also revealed an exciting lineup of events for the 2024 edition. The official activities will commence with the launch of the AMAA coffee book at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, GRA, Lagos, followed by a two-day AMAA Africa Fashion Show and Trade Exhibition from October 31 to November 1, 2024, at the Amore Gardens, Lekki, Phase I, Lagos.
The AMAA Night of Legends will take place on Friday at the Amore Gardens, leading up to the gala night and awards ceremony at the elegant Balmoral Convention Centre.
Events scheduled for the 20th edition began with the unveiling of the nominees and categories by the AMAA College of Screeners and Jury on October 2, 2024. Mr. Tony Anih, chief operating officer, expressed excitement about leaving a lasting impression on the African film community expected in Lagos for this milestone celebration.
Anih also emphasised that the 20th anniversary will be held in collaboration with the Lagos State Government and other partners.
