Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has observed that for security to be effective in the country, all hands must be on deck, particularly at the community level, where the bad eggs hide.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo spoke at the Bauchi emir’s palace yesterday when he paid homage to the emir. He also commissioned some projects executed by the state government, including launching his foundation’s sound intervention mission in Bauchi.

He said, “The issue of security has gone much worse, and we cannot fold our arms to see things deteriorating. And I believe that for security to be effective, it is the responsibility of all, and particularly at the community level, because the bad eggs are among us.

“And even if we try to tell ourselves that some came from outside, how many of them came from outside, and even if those who came from outside if they didn’t have collaborators inside, they would be like fish outside water.”

While describing Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed as very active on security matters, the former president said, “I know that at the national level security agencies like the military, police, and all of them have been doing their jobs, as long as we have criminals in our midst, we are not secured.”

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo explained that it is our collective responsibility to ensure our security because, as he puts it, “Without security, our development would be in danger.”

On the intervention mission of his foundation, the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, the former president further explained that it is one area that could transform the lives of individual Nigerians, to get back their hearing.

Responding, the emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu expressed gratitude to the former president for the visit, and flagging-off the programme of sound intervention mission.
