The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned that the rift within its fold would negate its plans to return to power in 2027.

This was disclosed at an enlarged meeting of all organs of the party spearheaded by the PDP Governors’ Forum in Abuja on Tuesday night.

The meeting also declared the postponement of the much-anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for a second time. It fixed the new gathering for November 28.

The party’s NEC was earlier scheduled to hold on October 24. The meeting was earlier fixed in last September

The organs of the party attended the meeting: The PDP Governors’ Forum; The Board of Trustees; National Working Committee (NWC); National Assembly Leadership of the PDP Caucus; and Forum of Former Governors of the party.

A communique signed by the governor forum chairman, Governor Bala A. Mohammed of Bauchi State, said “Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts at strengthening the party to effectively play its role as the country’s main opposition, preparatory to taking over in 2027.”

On the NEC meeting, the party leaders said “The postponement is to ensure that the party goes into the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections of November 16, 2024 with the unity and strength demanded to unseat the floundering All Progressive Congress, APC government in the state.”
