As the world marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Boch Systems is taking the lead in educating organisations and individuals on the importance of protecting their digital assets.

To this end, it unveiled its Next Generation (Next Gen) security solution, which has the ability to detect malicious activities and stop them before causing damage.

Managing Director, Boch Systems, Chima Uzomba, expressed that cybersecurity is not just a technical issue; it’s a business imperative. “It is an important aspect of economic growth because when we talk about financial service delivery, which is the advancement in the way we run our bank and the way we operate and do business, Look at the ATMs, mobile banking, POSs, credit card, internet banking, and USSD.

“All of those are advancements in technology that make it easier for people to access financial services.”

He, however, said all these come with threats and challenges. “Cybersecurity goes hand in hand with advancement in technology. And so for any economy to grow, for anybody to feel comfortable to be able to use those platforms that have been developed, they need to be sure that they are secure, their assets are secure, and their information is also secure.”

Uzomba cited examples of common threats, such as phishing, password theft, and unauthorised access. “As a premium cybersecurity provider in West Africa, we try to bring people up to speed about the threats, about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to your data, information, credit card, passwords, PINs, and all of those essential things that are private.
The Boch Systems boss believes that for most companies, data is their most valuable and venerable asset, so data is always the target.

“We have heard instances where someone was able to get into another’s account and remove almost all of their savings. So we need to educate people; you don’t give your password, you don’t give your PIN; you have to protect all of those things to be able to protect your account.

“Even if you don’t give out your information, you also need to be ahead of your game because, just take, for example, the way you secure your home. You have to make sure there’s gates, you have to make sure there are cameras, and you have to put a lot of things in place to deter people from being able to access your environment. So, cybersecurity is a responsible act that every individual should be aware of and also take it very seriously.”
