Vice President Kashim Shettima’s planned trip to Samoa for the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit has been canceled due to damage sustained by his aircraft.
A foreign object struck the plane during a stopover at JFK Airport in New York, damaging the cockpit windscreen.
In a statement released by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, it was confirmed that the aircraft is currently undergoing repairs. In response to the situation, President Tinubu has promptly approved a ministerial delegation to represent Nigeria at the summit in Apia, the capital of Samoa.
The delegation, now set to attend the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), will be led by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abass Lawal. The summit commenced on October 21 and will conclude on October 26.
Meanwhile, Vice President Shettima and Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar have returned to Nigeria from New York.
