Plateau To Promote Climate Resilience Projects

Plateau State project coordinator of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mrs. Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, has said the state would continue to partner the United Nations and other international agencies to implement projects that promote climate resilience, economic empowerment and social development across the state.

She spoke in Jos yesterday while joining the global community to commemorate the 2024 United Nations Day, adding that it was important to reflect on the significance of the day as it aligned with the state’s commitment to the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.

A statement issued in Jos by the information officer of SDGs project coordinator, Mr. Mathias Yengoet pointed out that this year, they were particularly mindful of the growing challenges posed by climate change, environmental degradation and the urgent need for action to safeguard the planet for future generations.

The coordinator said under the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the state had made significant strides towards the realisation of the SDGs and prioritised sustainable development through initiatives that address poverty, hunger, quality education, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and strong institutions for peace and justice.

The statement further explained that the state government, in collaboration with various stakeholders, had intensified efforts to combat environmental degradation through afforestation programs, sustainable agricultural practices and climate-smart infrastructure.
