Regional office of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Kogi State has cried out over the high rate of energy thefts by customers in the region.

The company said energy theft had become a menace in the power sector in the region.
Chief business officer for the region, Olaseni Agunpopo, disclosed this in Lokoja during a visit by some members of the Correspondents Chapel of Nigerian Union of Journalists in the state yesterday.

He said some individuals and businesses illegally tapped into energy sources while some bypass meters to avoid paying for actual consumption.

Olaseni said energy theft was a serious issue that affects not only AEDC’s revenue but also the quality of service delivery to its customers as well as undermine the safety of the people.
