Former Deputy Govs Call For Collaboration Between Govs, Deputies

The Forum Of Former Deputy Governors (FFDGN) has called for Collaboration between governors and their deputies.

The Director General of FFDGN, Hon. Kenneth Ibe-Kalu in a statement released to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, said that in a bid to promote sustainable democratic governance in Nigeria, the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria (FFDGN) has called for governors to ensure a harmonious relationship with their deputies.

He said that the resolution was adopted during the 3rd National Conference of the FFDGN held at the Abuja Continental Hotel from 22nd to 23rd October, 2024.

He also said that, among other resolutions adopted at the conference was the call for the entrenchment of good governance as a means to achieve food security and sustainable growth in Nigeria.

Kalu said that the forum also seeks open and inclusive consultations with all major stakeholders in Nigeria on economic policy by the IMF and the World Bank.

He said, “Chaired by Arc. Obong Victor Attah and Co-Chaired by Chief Olusegun Osoba, the conference was declared open by the National Patron of FFDGN and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), H.E Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

“The forum called for judicious application of funds from external borrowings by the Federal Government and sub-national governments to productive activities and public infrastructure development. It was also suggested that laws be enacted to compel governments to complete ongoing projects before embarking on new ones, with stiffer punishments for contract defaulters.”

He further said that the FFDGN also announced plans to establish a Renewed Hope Agenda Peer Review Group and a Humanitarian Support System to complement government efforts in humanitarian disaster management.

Kalu said that the forum also called for the revamping of the Bank of Agriculture, the introduction of modern technology in agriculture, and the creation of agricultural hubs with adequate security measures.

While commending the federal government’s efforts in combating food insecurity and insecurity in the country, he said, “FFDGN highlighted the importance of depoliticizing agriculture, promoting youth entrepreneurship in agriculture, and strengthening agricultural institutions and linkages with research centers.”
