As the United Nations (UN) celebrates the International Day of Tolerance on November 16, the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has declared that it was proud to declare Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara, as the ‘Most Tolerant Governor’ in Nigeria.

A statement signed by Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke, the International Spokesman of IAWPA, said in a nation often marred by political strife and division, Governor Fubara has consistently exemplified the principles of peace, understanding, and resilience in the face of significant challenges.

It said Fubara’s unwavering commitment to fostering dialogue among diverse groups has not only set a remarkable precedent but has also reinforced the importance of tolerance in governance.

“Despite facing considerable antagonism and opposition, Governor Fubara has embraced a leadership style rooted in inclusivity and respect for all citizens. His ability to engage with critics and seek common ground has been a beacon of hope for many, demonstrating that effective governance is possible through cooperation and mutual respect,” the statement said.

Amb. Nkweke also said Governor Fubara’s initiatives aimed at promoting social cohesion, community dialogue, and conflict resolution, have positively impacted Rivers State, showcasing his belief that peace and tolerance are foundational to sustainable development.

It said his approach echoes the UN’s message of encouraging open dialogue in striving for peace in the state.

He added, “as we honour Governor Sim Fubara on this International Day of Tolerance, we call upon all leaders in Nigeria and beyond to take inspiration from his exemplary conduct.”

The statement advised Nigerians to work collectively in pushing for tolerance despite political, regional and ethnic differences. “Let us work collectively towards a future where tolerance guides our interactions, fostering unity rather than division.”

The Association urged the international community and development partners as well as philanthropic organisations to invest in the state and not be discouraged by the antics of those opposed to the governor stressing that the tolerance index of Rivers State is favourable considering the tolerance posture of the governor which has not divided the state or caused any social upheaval or unrest.

The statement said the association will present the award to the governor at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the presence of the World Peace President, Amb Per Stafsen, from the Kingdom of Denmark.
