Ahead of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) triennial conference in Owerri, Imo State, the former senator who represented Kaduna Central Zone in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has thrown his weight behind Garba Muhammad’s bid to become the national president of NUJ.
Shehu Sani who spoke at GMP campaign flag-off at the NUJ Secretariat, described Garba as the best person for the position.
Represented by Mohammed Suleiman, the former lawmaker urged delegates from the state to support Garba’s candidacy, ensuring the state’s leadership role in the union.
Comrade Sani praised Muhammad’s leadership abilities, emphasizing Kaduna’s significance in the journalism profession, particularly in northern Nigeria.
He recalled his efforts in pushing for the Freedom of Information Bill after journalists were attacked at an NUJ conference.
Managing director of Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC), Ahmed Maiyaki, also endorsed Muhammad, citing his years of acquaintance with the aspirant.
Maiyaki assured that Garba will prioritize members’ interests and welfare while promoting professionalism.
Maiyaki shared a personal experience, highlighting Muhammad’s kindness towards the family of a deceased colleague, demonstrating his commitment to the well-being of NUJ members.
The National Delegates Conference of the NUJ is scheduled to take place later this month in Owerri, Imo State.
