Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, is dead.
A source close to the state’s High Court told our correspondent in Ado Ekiti that the chief judge died on Monday, November 4, 2024.
He was 64. Another source said he died in the early hours of Tuesday during a brief illness.
The source, who noted that the details of the cause of his death were still sketchy, said it might not be unconnected with the injuries he sustained when a section of the state high court complex collapsed on the judge while in his office on July 12, 2023.
The unfortunate incident led to his hospitalisation and he was subsequently flown for medical treatment in the United Kingdom (UK).
Adeyeye later resumed duty four months after the incident.
Justice Adeyeye was born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi in Ekiti East local government area of Ekiti State and was called to the Bar in 1986.
He started his career as a state counsel in the civil service of the old Ondo State before joining the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission after the state was created in 1996.
He was elevated to judge in the Ekiti State High Court in 2002 and had served in the election petition tribunal at various times.
He was sworn in as a Chief Judge on October 11 2021, by former Governor Kayode Fayemi.
