The chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has expressed sadness over the death of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

LEADERSHIP reports that Lagbaja passed away on Tuesday night in Lagos after a period of illness, according to a statement released by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday morning.

Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, in a condolence message, said Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s death was a great loss to the nation, as he was a leader who dedicated his life to serving and protecting the country.

He recalled how the late Lt. Gen. Lagbaja played crucial roles in numerous security operations, including Operation Udoka in South-East Nigeria, and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States.

 

The lawmaker extended his heartfelt condolences to his family, the Nigerian Army, and the entire Nigerian Armed Forces.

 

While praying for the repose of Lagbaja’s soul, He prayed that God will grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

 

Ugochinyere also wished the acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, a successful tenure, urging him to continue the good works of his predecessor, started in ensuring that the nation is safe and at peace.
