The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has inaugurated a new transport hub in Karu, designed to streamline intercity travel and enhance commuter safety.

AMAC chairman Christopher Zaka Maikalangu, the developer, and other dignitaries highlighted the facility’s significance as a central hub connecting Abuja to multiple cities across Nigeria.

At the event, Maikalangu emphasised the hub’s economic and security benefits, noting its potential to reduce “one chance” incidents in the capital.

“With registered vehicles and CCTV cameras, we aim to ensure the safety of everyone who uses this park,” he stated.

Developed by PEGES Investment LTD under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the N1.56 billion facility was fully funded by private investment.

Developer Hon Peter Gumtha shared that PEGES invested in transforming the area into a modern transport park with offices, shops, restrooms, and restaurants.

Under the PPP, PEGES will manage the facility for 25 years to recover costs, making the project financially sustainable.

Gumtha stated that the hub serves as a gateway to over 36 states. “Now, travellers can begin their journeys from a secure, organized environment,” he noted, adding that the entry fee is minimal to encourage public use.

The facility also brings local employment opportunities, a development welcomed by community leaders, including Karu councilor, Hon Husaini Gogo, who praised it as a model of efficient resource utilization.

There were also calls for similar hubs across other districts of the FCT to enhance safe and accessible transportation.

“The Karshi transport hub marks a significant step in AMAC’s efforts to modernize transit infrastructure, reflecting a commitment to safe, interconnected mobility for residents and visitors alike,” he said.
