Abia State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has said the member representing Aba federal constituency at the National Assembly, Alex Ikwechegh shouldn’t go scot-free for assaulting an Abuja uber driver.

The state’s IPAC chairman, Chimex Uluocha, spoke to newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital as the action of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) member continues to attract wild condemnation in the country.

“What he has just done is putting the people against democracy,” Uluocha, who was accompanied by members of his executive committee, noted.

“We condemn in its entirety the public display of arrogance by Ikwechegh. It is not acceptable by any standard whatsoever for him to have treated a fellow Nigerian like that.”

He explained that the chapter is primarily concerned because the legislator is from the state and a member of one of the political parties under the umbrella of the council.

“You cannot be elected by the people and you will be behaving in a manner that puts the trust of the people away.”

Uluocha said the chapter calls on the state chairman of APGA to set up a disciplinary committee on the member generally referred to as Onyeocha na Aba (White man in Aba).

“The committee should make sure that activities and actions like this are not heard of by anyone going forward,” the chairman further explained.

Ikwechegh’s emergence in the House last  year followed the invalidation of the victory of Chimobi Obisike of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general election by the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos.
