A 43-year-old Nigerian, Abimbola David, has been arrested in the United Kingdom for alleged inappropriate online conversation with a 14-year-old girl and making illicit requests from her.
The girl allegedly reported the conversation with relevant evidence to the police which led to Abimbola’s arrest.
An organisation, the Saving Our Children’s Futures recounted that Abimbola is married with two children and resides in the UK on a student visa.
For his part, Abimbola stated during interrogations that he was unaware of the girl’s age, expressing shock that she was on the platform in the first place.
He maintained that he was simply using the platform for leisure, adding that his actions were not borne out of any malicious intent.
“I met her on a dating app, I was surprised I could meet a little girl on the app. I was just there just to calm myself when I’m bored. I asked her for those images for her to stop chatting with me, I wanted to be sure if she was a child or not, that was why I asked her. I don’t deal with minors. If she had sent me those pictures, I will delete them.
“I said all those things for fun, I have a wife and I have two kids, I don’t do it,” he stated.
When asked if he knew he was abusing the child with the messages he was sending to her, he said, “If I want to abuse a child, I will send her my home address, I have never done that in my life. I was just saying all that for nothing sake.
“I am 43, I told her I was 24. It’s a dating app and they fake their age. She said on the dating app that she was 18, as they won’t allow you on the app unless you are 18 and above.”
Confronted that the girl told her real age regardless of the age on the dating app, he said, “I didn’t believe her, I thought it was just for fun.”
