Akwa Ibom State governor, Umo Eno, has relieved the managing director (MD) of the Ibom Power Company Limited (IPCL), Engr Meyen Etukudoh, of his appointment with immediate effect.
The state has been in darkness for the past three days, and LEADERSHIP Weekend learnt that the sacking of Etukudoh might not be unconnected with incessant blackout in the state.
The incident has caused untold hardship for residents and affected businesses despite millions of naira invested in the sector by the state government.
Consequently, Etukudoh, has been directed to hand over the firm’s property and documents in his possession to the commissioner in charge of Power, who is to oversee the company till further notice.
A statement by the secretary to the state government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, said the governor was disappointed that Etukudoh failed to bring his ingenuity to bear in retooling the energy sector in line with the ARISE Agenda of the state government.
